The History of Acura

By 1986, the Honda name had already become legendary in America. The Accord was on its way to establishing its dominance among American passenger cars, but Honda wasn't finished yet. To truly cement its foothold in the American auto industry, they aimed to create something extraordinary for drivers: the first Acura.

A Legend Began It All

Acura's initial releases were the Integra and Legend models. The Legend was a coupe, and the Integra tackled the compact class. Both were warmly received in North America, coinciding with the opening of 60 new Acura dealerships across the United States. Back then, it was rare to find an empty Acura dealership. The brand was highly regarded from the start.

In the 90s, Acura crafted the NSX, a V6 sports car that elevated the brand's glamorous reputation. Although there were challenges as this young luxury car division found its way, prospects were bright for the 2000s. They launched the MDX model and the TL. By 2005, the Acura RL was introduced and became an instant favorite among critics.

Acura also has a notable partnership with American Motorsports. They've created masterpieces like the Acura RSX and ARX-02a. While these names might not be familiar to most Americans, they hold significance for motorsports enthusiasts. Acura models are not just luxurious; they are also a part of the fast-paced world of motorsports, gaining respect for their mechanical designs. You can often see specialized Acura designs competing in some of the fiercest motorsports competitions around the world.

Honda's decision to establish a luxury vehicle division has paid off significantly for them and car enthusiasts worldwide. Acura continues to release models that never disappoint. Some popular modern Acura designs include the TLX, RDX, and MDX, each embodying the kind of luxury we've come to expect from the brand. They exemplify what a luxury vehicle should be: glamorous and ready for high-performance moments.
