Kakunoshin Ohta, a Honda driver and Honda Formula Dream Project graduate, is set to compete in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the GTP class. He will drive for the Acura Meyer Shank Racing team, taking the fourth driver position for the Curb Agajanian No. 93 car. Ohta will be racing the Acura ARX-06, which Honda Racing Corporation USA developed. His schedule includes three races, starting with his debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Ohta, who is relatively new to the racing scene, received a scholarship at the Suzuka Circuit Racing School (now Honda Racing School Suzuka) in 2018. He graduated from the Honda Formula Dream Project (HFDP) and launched his racing career in 2023, competing in Japan's Super Formula and SUPER GT GT500 class.
In preparation for his IMSA debut, Ohta began training in 2024 at the HRC US facility in Indianapolis, using the newly developed Driver-In-The-Loop Simulator. His strong results in Japan earned him the opportunity to race in the 2025 season.
Ohta's inclusion in the 2025 IMSA season aligns with Honda Racing Corporation's mission to develop young racing talent with aspirations to compete at the highest levels. The corporation remains dedicated to nurturing emerging drivers in Japan and worldwide.
