Summer Automobile Maintenance Tips

You’re probably in the middle of planning a summer road trip now that the temperatures and weather are optimal. Before you leave, Vandergriff Acura wants to help you by ensuring that your vehicle is in great shape so you won’t be faced with a necessary repair while in another city or state. When temperatures start to climb and you’re dealing with the hot summer sun, you’d be surprised at how this can affect your automobile. Contact our dealership in Arlington if you would like more information on the following summer maintenance tasks.

Oil / Oil Filter Change

If you’re going to be heading out for long drives or a road trip, you don’t want to be doing so with old oil in your engine. Those particulates that have built up over the past few months can cause damage if you don’t remove the oil periodically. We recommend having this done every six months or so, but your owner’s manual likely gives you a more definitive timeline. It’s recommended that you also change your oil filter along with the oil.

Fluid Levels

Fluid levels can be affected by your local weather and temperature fluctuations. Our seasonal maintenance includes checking or replacing things like power steering fluid, transmission fluid, coolant, wiper fluid, etc. We ideally want to make sure that your coolant is adequate. This fluid is an essential part of keeping your engine cool in the hot summer months.

Tire Quality

Our mechanics can check your tires to see if you have the recommended level of air pressure in all four of them. We also inspect your tires to see what the tread wear is like. We want to see if the tread pattern is the same on all four tires, which indicates that everything is running smoothly. We’ll let you know if it’s almost time to purchase a new set of tires, and we’ll help you pick out a new set when it’s time.

Car Battery Service

The summer months can take quite a toll on the quality of your battery. It’s very common for people to experience battery failure in the summer months, more so than any other season. We’ll check your battery’s charge, along with the ability of your battery to charge and hold a charge.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for summer service for your vehicle, contact our dealership in the Arlington area. We would be happy to provide you with guidance regarding what service schedule you should be following for your automobile.
