Spring 2022 Auto Maintenance Tips

After surviving the winter season, your car should be inspected and adjusted. You can visit a certified auto repair shop for some basic and comprehensive diagnostics. Some parts could also be checked, adjusted, cleaned, and replaced without the assistance of auto mechanics.

Spring Cleaning For Your Car

As you prepare your automobile for the arrival of the spring season, you should do some basic interior and exterior cleaning. You might notice plenty of leaves and other debris under the hood of your car. Some of the particles might be stuck between the engine block, alternator, battery, and other components. The debris might also partially obstruct the air intake openings for the climate control system. Similarly, the radiator grille should be cleared of any debris and other small deposits. When the hood is open, you could also inspect and replace the engine air filter according to the manufacturer's recommendations. A clogged air filter might reduce the horsepower and torque output from your car's engine. Don't forget to thoroughly wash the vehicle's entire exterior, especially hard-to-reach corners and points. Additionally, remember to vacuum the floor mats, floor liners, and everything underneath. You might be surprised by how much debris has accumulated in the footwells of the front row and under the seats.

Inspect the Suspension and Brakes

Your vehicle's suspension system might be compromised by freezing temperatures during the winter season. The frequent freezing and thawing may lead to permanent damage to the components on the car's suspension system. After all, the parts are primarily made of metal and plastic. Both materials have highly responsive thermal properties that cause significant contraction and expansion. Cracks and other damages typically occur from prolonged exposure to harsh winter weather. Salts and other chemicals that are sprayed on the roads could also damage the metallic components on your car's suspension. Corrosion is definitely a major concern for the rotors, calipers, pads, and other brake components.

Check Tires and Wheels

You should thoroughly inspect the tread wear on your car's tires at the beginning of the spring season. After all, you should expect to receive lots of rainfall throughout the entire season. If the tires are worn out below the recommended levels, you should immediately order new pairs. If your car rolls on steel wheels, corrosion might be a major concern after the winter season. However, even alloy wheels might have a significant accumulation of hard deposits from the road and trails.
