Expectations for the 2021 Acura MDX

Acura will give the mid-size SUV a makeover for the 2021 model year with changes occurring on the exterior and interior. Buyers can expect the MDX to get an exterior makeover similar to those given to the smaller RDX compact crossover and the TLX sedan.

Edgier Styling

On the outside, first photos of the restyled MDX show edgier styling that includes headlights similar to the TLX headlights, Acura's new, muscular grille with a revamped "A" badge in the middle, and redesigned taillights. The new MDX is also expected to be larger than the 2020 model, translating to more room in the cabin. With the redesign, buyers can also expect some differences in the interior design.

Power and Drivetrain Options

The MDX is expected to get the sporty Type S treatment that has graced the TLX. This sporty treatment means that buyers can expect a heftier powertrain and more engine options. While the 3.5-liter V6 engine is still expected to be part of the lineup, the 2021 model should also offer a new turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, powering over 300 hp. This turbocharged engine will be available on higher trims. The more powerful engine is expected to come paired with Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) for greater control. Another possibility is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that will output over 400 hp.
