The Acura RLX is a sporty yet sophisticated sedan that is relatively new. The first-generation premiered in 2014. The last significant update to the RLX was in 2018 when it received a facelift inside and out. It also received a 10-speed automatic transmission rather than the previously standard six-speed one. In 2020, the RLX continues to shine in the way that consumers have come to expect.
There are two very different trim levels when it comes to the Acura RLX. The first is called the RLX P-AWS. Convenient and comfortable features such as 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats, navigation, and leather trim are standard in this trim. The second trim level is the RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD. On top of the differences in power and drivetrains, there are also a few more standard features in this trim level. Drivers who go with this model get standard parking sensors as well as an upgraded premium audio system.
For the RLX P-AWS, the engine is a 3.5L V6. It produces 310-horsepower as well as 272 lb-ft of torque. This vehicle is technically front-wheel-drive, but it has what is known as rear-wheel steer. Essentially, the rear wheels have the ability to turn a bit in the opposite direction of the front wheels when powering around turns. For the RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, the same engine is underneath the hood. For this trim, however, there is also a lithium-ion battery. Between the two, the horsepower is upped all the way to 377. It also produces 341 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission instead of the ten-speed automatic found in the RLX P-AWS. For the Hybrid Sport trim, all-wheel-drive is standard.
There are many standard advanced driver aids found in both trim levels. They include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and forward-collision warning complete with automatic emergency braking. Also standard is a road departure mitigation system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, and a feature called Traffic Jam. This works with adaptive cruise control to help keep the RLX moving smoothly, even in very congested driving situations.
