What's new for the 2018 Acura RLX?

The 2018 Acura RLX is the newest vehicle to hit the market from the Acura company. The new Acura RLX is a sports sedan, now extra smooth when it comes to city driving and even comes in a Sports Hybrid brand. The new model this year has been given several upgrades, such as new front-end styling, new front seats, a much-improved suspension system and a smaller car battery that comes with the Sports Hybrid styling.

Trims & Features

The 2018 RLX has a few trim levels that come with their own set of features and amenities specific to it. The RLX has a small selection of models, coming in with only two trim levels: the P-AWS trim and the Sports Hybrid level. The "P-AWS" trim is the base front-wheel-drive version of the vehicle and comes with a lot of features, in fact, more than many other vehicles with a basic standard model. The basic standard equipment includes features such as 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic windshield wipers, a power sunroof and a rearview camera. The interior of the Acura RLX has features such as a three-zone automatic climate control setting, Bluetooth access, a dual-screen infotainment system and 14-speaker radio. The Sports Hybrid is upgraded more than the P-AWS and has specialties like LED fog lights with auto-dimming capabilities, parking sensors in the front and rear, remote startup and a surround-view camera system. A hybrid drivetrain is the most notable upgrade, coming with an electric motor, with each rear wheel having an independent electric motor of their own.

Horsepower

The 2018 Acura RLX is fitted with an engine that can handle all of the strengths and capabilities needed to ensure a smooth ride. The RLX engine has seen notable changes since last year, first and foremost with a whopping 310 horsepower rating at up to 6,500 wheel rotations per minute, as well as producing 272 feet by pounds of torque. The Sports Hybrid version is even stronger, being able to generate a 377 horsepower rating. The engine contains V6 cylinders with a front-wheel drivetrain and a 7-speed automated manual transmission. The standard P-AWS trim runs on gas, particularly premium unleaded fuel, while the Sports Hybrid is as it says, a hybrid. The fuel economy for the Acura runs with a combined 23 miles per gallon, getting 20 mpg riding through the city and 29 mpg when riding on the highway.

Safety

The Acura RLX is equipped with several safety features that give it the feel of a safe ride. Safety is no small matter with the RLX and starts with children, the inclusion of parts such as child seating anchors and rear door safety locks. A pre and post-collision safety system has been added for keeping track of the car's status in the event of an accident. On top of accident prevention, the car also has blind-spot and lane departure warning systems to alert drivers of other vehicles on the road. Emergency braking assist is also key here, for in the event of a brake failure, as well as an engine immobilizer.
